Gchatted up Scott E. Chan this morning while he was getting ready for another day of fighting injustice at APALC. I’ve known Scott for a couple years now, and to summarize him in all his entirety, he is fresher than raw fish.
Let’s see what he does when he’s not busy as the JACL’s Civil Rights Caucus chair, board member of A3PCON, consultant for APIsCAN and NAPAFASA, and Community Advocate for APALC.

Y: What’s your routine right before you go to bed?
S: I….read geeky sci-fi books in bed, sometimes with a flashlight
Y: What would you do if you had 3 extra hours today?
S: Same thing every other community person would do: SLEEP. If you’re not craving sleep, you’re not working hard enough for the community
Y: What do you like to do for fun?
S: draw, take photos with my dslr, blog, sing in the shower, hate on mactivists*

I will now take this opportunity to explain what a mactivist is:
Mac-ti-vist[mak-tuh-vist]
-noun
1. a term often used by Scott E. Chan to describe an individual who only pretends to be an active advocate of a cause in order to hook up with other activists/mactivisits.
2. one who attends community functions without knowledge or interest of what the function is for or who it is for…one’s sole reason for attending is to ”meet” people. tsk tsk
Ex: Dang, look at that poor girl. She doesn’t know she’s talking to a mactivist.

If you want a closer look at what goes on underneath Scott’s fohawk or want to see where he’s going/been, check out his blog.

“Mactivist” sounds like an updated version of “liberal” – people who place their selfish interests first and the interests of true social justice second, ultimately unprincipled opportunistic people who are in effect helping the enemy.
Yay scott! Boo macktivists!
