To provide Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI), Little Tokyo, and greater Los Angeles communities with a number of diverse and dynamic public art and culture programs in safe community spaces where people can connect through creative expression and social engagement.
About Tuesday Night Project
Tuesday Night Project (TNP) is an Asian American grassroots and volunteer-based organization fiercely devoted to bridging communities by providing programming and interactive spaces for people to connect through artistic expression and strong, creative, community partnerships. Founded in 1998, it has grown into a community of artists, organizers, activists, professionals, independent business owners, educators, and community members.
Tuesday Night Project’s flagship program is the Tuesday Night Café (TNC). TNC is one of the longest-running free arts & performance series in Downtown LA and is the oldest currently running Asian American open mic space in the country. Now a destination for many Asian American performers across the nation, Tuesday Night Café was also recognized by the L.A. Weekly as "Best Free Downtown Performance Series” in their 2013 “Best of L.A.” edition.
Tuesday Night Project maintains through TNC a passionate, positive space with a focus on “art+community” and new original work from Asian American/Pacific Islander communities and the greater Los Angeles area. The series runs on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month, spring through fall, and features a curated program of multidisciplinary visual and performing art in addition to an open mic section.
Tuesday Night Café is presented in the Aratani Courtyard of the Union Center for the Arts in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles through the support of their fiscal receiver, Little Tokyo Service Center. The space has served as a cultural/community entry point to Little Tokyo for thousands of people since its beginnings. Average audiences at TNC have grown to 100-250 people at each event, with people spilling onto the sidewalk and adjacent parking lot.
Tuesday Night Project has presented over 2,350 performance sets and visual artists through Tuesday Night Café, its TN-On-Tour program, and special off-site events since its official first TNC event in February of 1999. TNP highlights community organizations, campaigns, initiatives, series & special events and introduces its audiences to a myriad of ways for further community engagement and opportunities for collaboration. Tuesday Night Project has supported and partnered with countless organizations, including: Visual Communications, East West Players, Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance, South Asians for Justice, API Equality-LA, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, Thai CDC, SouthEast Asian Community Alliance, Pilipino Workers Center, Korean Americans United for Equality (KUE), Satrang, Barangay, Kizuna, APALS, AP3CON, NCRR, JACCC, KmB, Asian Americans Advancing Justice.
Tuesday Night Project is a fiscal recipient of the Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC).
