TN Labs Workshop Series 2.3 | All Things Food!

Workshop Information

A five-session, weekly, donate-what-you-want workshop series on food w/ TNC Communications Manager Sophia Chang.

Welcome to the second workshop series from TN Labs! This session will cover easy things to grow in your own garden and how to reduce waste through composting. Sophia is joined by guest host, Linda Wei, as they discuss how to check soil composition and even making your own budget-friendly worm bin.

Sign-ups are open until September 25:

Facilitator Information

Sophia (she/her) is a food stylist and boba tea addict. When she’s not eating or cooking, she enjoys catching up on TV shows, talking to her plants, and hiking.

Linda Wei started growing vegetables in 2015 and in that first year, experienced an abundance of success as well as a series of timely infestations that coincided with the end of growing season in Los Angeles county. Eating so many greens that year changed them from someone that “runs cold” to someone that can now deal with chilly weather and plant disasters much more robustly. Linda Wei is in the Fruit Trees phase of biology learning and still finds plant cultivation a rewarding skillset to practice.

Tea & Letter Writing (ONLINE): Building Connections

FREE

Gather with us in the comfort of your own home to share tea and conversation and write letters—with plenty of prompts provided by traci kato-kiriyama, former Little Tokyo +LAB Artist-in-Residence at JANM.

As we continue to physically distance, we are reminded of the most vulnerable populations among us, especially our community seniors who have been safer at home, but isolated, for some time now and those who are currently incarcerated in unsafe, crowded conditions. During this tea & letter writing session, we will be taking time to reach out to these communities and offer our support and solidarity. Participants will have the chance to send their letters to seniors in Little Tokyo senior living facilities and/or migrants detained at the Adelanto Detention Center.

We will read aloud some letters on the theme from JANM’s permanent collection before diving into our own writing. Make yourself a warm cup of tea, get cozy, and join us online! All ages are welcome to participate.

This program is FREE, but please RSVP when at the link below. You will be emailed instructions for how to join our conversation on Zoom. Please contact publicprograms@janm.org if you have any additional questions.

RSVP

This program was launched through the +LAB Artist Residency program presented by the Little Tokyo Service Center in partnership with JANM and continues now in partnership with Tuesday Night Project’s TNTalks initiative.

Tea & Letter Writing: to our elders (ONLINE)

FREE

Connect with others during this time of “social isolation” and write a letter to an elder in your life. Gather with us in the comfort of your own home to share tea and conversation and write letters—with plenty of prompts provided by traci kato-kiriyama, former Little Tokyo +LAB Artist-in-Residence at JANM.

Seniors are highly vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus and so many find themselves isolated in this time. During this tea & letter writing session, you will have a chance to write to an important elder in your life or write a letter to send to an elder currently staying safely at home in a senior living community in Little Tokyo. We will read aloud some letters on the theme from JANM’s permanent collection before diving into our own writing.

Make yourself a warm cup of tea, get cozy, and join us online! All ages are welcome to participate.

This program is FREE, but please RSVP using the link below. You will be emailed instructions for how to join our conversation on Zoom. Please contact publicprograms@janm.org if you have any additional questions.
